Medical test

Good morning,

Yesterday I had a new medical test called an MRA. It tests the blood flow in the brain. It was in a closed MRI machine and I was a little nervous about it but it lasted only 8 minutes. The technician told me that the doctor would have the results by today. That's a first. It usually takes a week before I know anything. Hmm, is that good or bad ?

Tomorrow I have an eye exam. It's a good thing I'm retired or I wouldn't have time for all these appointments.

Wish me luck.

Beth

Thank you for writing. I am actually doing very well. My symptoms have gone away. I never did find out what the cause was but speaking to many people it seems a common problem and many people just recover and never have these episodes again. I am sorry your daughter is experiencing this. I know it can be be really hard on everyone. It is also frightening when you don't know the cause. I don't know if she is on any medication but I take fludrocortisone to raise my blood pressure. Ask your doctor if he thinks it might help. I hope your daughter has a full recovery.

Hi Tammy,
i hope you check back and get a chance to read this. i've been having vasovegal episodes ever since i was 7. the first time it happened i was caught off guard and was walking in the park past the rest room when i suddenly fainted.Luckily my parents were right there and my dad also had these episodes so they knew what to do.
The last time was a week ago when i went on a very high carnival ride and im afraid of hights.

i've found that the best solution is to lay on my back and raise my feet in the air to restore the blood flow to the brain.
im 23 now and i dont get them as often, maybe once a year if its triggered.

you should go to the wikkipidea.com page on Vaso Vega, ive found their info to be quite accurate and i already have 5 of those triggers.

after a while you'll find out what your daughter's triggers are and she can learn to either avoid them or expect them. Mine are usually stress, high altitude, dehydration and especially sudden experience of intense emotion. and it happens in the weirdest situations, like the carnival ride, i was so stressed while i was on it, then after getting off all that stress suddenly left my body and caused an episode.

Another good thing is to educate her and her friends on how to handle an episode. ive had several while i was out horseback riding or just out but the people with me knew what to expect and how to handle it by giving me smth sweet and smth salty and raising my feet, also having a cool cloth or towel helps if she experiences sweating.

i used to get these episodes suddenly when i was younger but after a while i started getting symptoms that came just a few minutes before blacking out, like nausea, vision problems, chest pains or sweating.

i always carry smth sweet like candy and smth salty maybe a biscuit in my bag, and if i feel the symptoms i sit with my feet up or with my head between my legs and have my candy and biscuits.

i know its difficult and it feels like hell when it happens. in my experience the best way to deal with it has been to identify the triggers and try as much as possible to prevent it.

i hope this helped :D
